UTS: Cultural Producers Interview Series: Rafael Alberti

Rafael Alberti, Spain (1902-1999),
Poet, Winner of the Premio Cervantes and the Lenin Peace Prize.

Rafael Alberti was a writer and poet, member of the Generation 27 (Generación del '27) whose life and work remained interconnected with profound social and political change that occured in Spain throughout the 20th Century.

A loyalist during the Spanish Civil War, he fled to Argentina and lived a substantial portion of his life in exile there, as well as in Italy, returning to Spain for the first time in 1977.

An English version of the Rafael Alberti Foundation can be found at the following website

Another useful resource (in Spanish) is the Cervates Institute's site on Alberti , which also contains bibliographical information.

Included amongst his many awards and prizes were the Spanish National Prize in Literature, the International Lenin Peace Prize, the Spanish National Prize in Theatre and the Cervantes Prize in Literature.

At the Institute we have rare signed copies of Poesia 1939-1963 and Prosas
